Micro-Moment #8 – Big Beware….

I am shocked multiple times a week with the lengths companies go to to promote and mislead their consumers. When did humans begin acting out of intentions of greed and deceit over compassion and contribution?
This fortnight’s micro-moment is about taking back control of your physical and emotional health through the education of labels. A micro-moment of flicking over the packet!

Manufacturers are able to get away with adding harmful ingredients into food products without disclosing them, through the 5% loophole.

If an ingredient makes up less than 5% of an ingredient in a product added, it need not be disclosed. So when we look at most packaged foods and see the word ‘vegetable oil’ for example, (this being inflammatory and very harmful alone) we don’t necessarily see the harmful antioxidants added into these vegetable oils as they make up less than 5% of the ingredient. These anti-oxidants not disclosed could be synthetic chemicals such as Butylated hydrooxyanisole (320), which is a suspect carcinogen, impacts the endocrine system (aka hormone imbalance), affects asthmatics, may cause metabolic changes and accumulates in fat cells. Sound safe?

These misleading acts are occurring everywhere.

Just today I stumbled across a global multi-level marketing company who promote health products and weight loss products.  Their CLEANSE product nutritional panel looked fabulous. Promoting all the things they wanted you to know that were positive. And yet, taking a very quick glance at the ‘other ingredients list’, hidden to the side, I saw the beautiful 202- Potassium Sorbate which is a possible liver damager (Cleanse/liver damage????), and linked to asthma and behavioural problems.
It also contained synthetic Fructose. WOW REALLY? CLEANSE?
They were promoting ‘cleanse away toxins and impurities the natural way’, OMG!

If you’re really serious about improving energy, weight, mood and the energy, weight and mood of your children, then jump into your pantry, fridge and freezer for a ‘Nutrient Stocktake’. Pay attention to the ingredients list on everything. If you don’t know where to start, then pretty pretty please contact me and say ‘I don’t know where to begin’ and I can easily pass on some recommendations.

This is serious stuff. A micro-moment of flipping the packet!

Until next time, take care and be well,

Erin xx
