I don’t have time for anything else, how can I fit it in?

I know! However, your health and your family’s health should be taken very seriously or time will hardly matter at all. I work with individuals later in their life cycle, and most wish they had made time for the important! You will need to prioritise and schedule your study. This course is focused on creating new educated habits and this takes time and commitment. Is it worth it? Yes, for you and your family. Health is not something that you want to take a risk with, it is too late when it is gone. AND you most certainly do not want to take a gamble on your child’s life. You have lifetime access to the modules and tools. If something serious pops up, you can come back to the modules when you are ready to re-commence. Don’t spend your life waiting for the perfect time, it never comes. So yes, it will take a few hours per week depending on your current position. Schedule it and MAKE IT happen. I will be in your back pocket to keep you focused!


Do I need to be a parent?

No. These principles apply to anyone. It is real life and real behaviours which means it is for real people. Provided that you want to be healthier, happier and that you know that change requires you to take action and become self- reliant, then HPHC is totally suitable.


I am fairly healthy, would I benefit?

Over the last 17 years of my involvement in the health industry, things have changed. Unfortunately, many individuals who believe they are healthy actually do not know what they do not know. Marketing is amazing and cleverly fools so many people who believe they are making the right decisions. So many individuals jump between new products or eating patterns which come along in order to stay healthy. It can be so much simpler and less costly than that. Sometimes people are also missing the warning signs and communication from their body, indicating something isn't exactly right. Everyone can benefit from HPHC.


Do I get meal plans?

This program provides you with a recipe book starter kit with healthy snacks, main meals and desserts, plus ongoing recipes delivered via email fortnightly and in the private Healthy Parent Healthy Child community. Rather than generic meal plans which do not suit everyone’s needs, or create a new neural pathway and behaviour (hence people putting weight back on after a diet), this course is about developing your unique likes and dislikes and becoming time efficient in meal planning so that you never have to rely on anyone or anything else to maintain health and weight. You can most certainly say goodbye to calorie counting and starvation for life. If individual meal plans are something that you would like to incorporate as you are working through the course, these can be tailored to your family by connecting with me. We're all unique.


I want to eat well, but my family will not come to the party?

You need to first focus on your health first. No one else is responsible for your health and choices except you. Usually when people watch a positive transformation, they want what you have. Leading by example works better than 'telling' everytime. Throughout the program you will learn how to plan around favourite foods, flavours and ingredients. No more cooking separate meals for everyone. This program is a stepping stone approach, whereby you implement the changes that you can, and then over time build on those changes. You are your child’s role model. It is up to you which party they go to. I promise they won’t leave home and will thank you for setting them up for a vibrant, disease free future which is also mentally and emotionally stable.


What if I don’t lose weight?

Initially this program is not just about weight loss. Weight loss comes as a result of the behaviours and choices you make during and after the program. Let’s face it, your weight gain didn’t just happen overnight. You will need to be accepting of the slight edge choices you have made in the past which have resulted in your current weight. The changes will take time, but once you get to where you need to be, it will maintainable forever. Your current mindset also plays a significant part in your current weight status. This too, takes time and focus to shift. During the program the focus is on nourishment, because of course there are also people who are thin but very unhealthy. Once the focus shifts to nourishment, weight loss and health will follow. Weight loss depends on more than food and exercise!


Diets have worked for me in the past, why wouldn’t I just do one again?

Feel free to do one again. And again. And again. And again……… and each time you diet, please understand that you disrupt your body’s ability to function well. Each time you end your diet, people usually put on more weight than when they first started, and then when they finally decide that this dieting approach isn’t the best, it will take longer for their body to recover and function optimally.


What if I don’t live in Australia?

My name is Erin Barnes. I have a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAsc) – Human Movement Sciences, am a Personal Trainer, Sports Trainer, Certified Wellness & Lifestyle Coach with a focus and experience in positive psychology, and Twenty8 Health & Lifestyle Educator in aromatherapy, chemical free skincare and essential oils. 

My experience over the last 17yrs has been across the areas of exercise physiology, nutrition, positive psychology, behavioural coaching and chemical free living. 

That’s the professional part, and I believe that quality education is imperative in our current climate. However, so much of my ability to support women, comes through the personal side. Whilst I believe that we should be able to experience big belly laughs, be in the moment without worrying what someone may think of us, how our butt looks, how big our house is, how many sports our kids do, what our title is, if our toenails are chipped, if our crow’s feet are visible……… most women are not. 

Several years ago I wasn’t either. 

This is how it really looked: 

1) If I didn’t get two exercise sessions in during a day, I was hopeless, hard on myself, and scared I would get fat. Note: I was also at my most unhealthy and heaviest, and was working in the health industry with knowledge of biochemistry, which should have provided the knowing that over-exercising, negative thinking and emotional stress are big causes of weight gain- sometimes knowledge isn’t all we need! 

2) I focused on the low calorie choice, rather than the nourishing one (and ended up with an auto-immune disease so I could barely walk, let alone exercise- spiral on point 1). 

3) I suffered anxiety in every setting I entered, choking on my saliva if someone asked me a question, and spluttered out the answer in total disrespect so that they would look the other way – living in an internal state of stress and exacerbating the auto-immune disease. 

4) I based my worth on busy-ness. 

5) I craved significance because of the frightened parts of my personality, which meant I made hurtful comments to others- all in fun of course! 

6) I believed that relaxation was a glass of wine and I deserved it. Never anything to do with masking the real stresses and the underlying emotions. It didn’t help the gut and auto-immune disease either. 

7) I believed that life was meant to be hard work, rather than an opportunity to be challenged, expand and experience. 

8) I believed in ‘lack’ because of comparison rather than gratitude, also thinking when I had the next ‘thing’ it would all change. 

9) I would say ‘yes’ constantly to make other people happy so they would like me. Stress then stayed my norm and I had no time for self-compassion and self-care. 

10) I agreed with name calling, and spoke about people too much – because it distracted me from my own weaknesses and shadows. 

What did all that end up looking like? A fearful human, being hurtful, being angry, in pain, busy to gain significance, tired, not good enough…….but no one would have guessed that from the outside, and god knows I wasn’t going to share the truth! And then I thought it would be normal to bring a little human in to the world and teach her what I knew about life! And can’t they highlight your greatest fears and insecurities!!

 I have a genuine understanding of how physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health, create our intentions (aware or unaware), which create our personal experience of life.

Next Generation Wellness was created and operates with my core values close to heart – health, family, relationships, freedom, passion and engagement, achievement, personal growth, contribution, courage, dedication and professionalism.

 I am blessed to live on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, QLD, Australia, with my encouraging husband and two edifying children and love having energy and being social. I enjoy a great glass of wine, an amazing coffee and chocolate without guilt, but I also can’t go without my real food, veggies and smoothies. I am energised by the beach, yoga and generally being active.

My hope for you is that when your child is an adult with responsibilities and challenges of their own, that they can look at you and be grateful that you taught them the essentials to be healthy and happy. That you instilled in them the basic skills of eating nutritious food and being active, the importance of positive relationships, the significance of achievement rather than winning, responsibility rather than blame, and a higher purpose than greed and opposition. Healthy Parent Healthy Child is an affordable and accessible program that can help you to achieve these things, become healthy and confident, and be the inspiration for your children. My hope for you is that in your dying moments, you are contented with the life that you chose to live.

WHY Healthy Parent Healthy Child?


- because it needn't be hard to be healthy just because we live in an unhealthy society

- because it's not a fad

- because living in stress and limited sleep will kill you

- because you learn it once and you live it for life

- because it's ok to ask for support and not to have to know it all

- because self worth isn't measured through scales, money, cars, houses......

- because we need to communicate better with ourselves and our loved ones

- because a quick fix never ever lasts the distance

- because your health and well-being should never be last on the list

- because we should never wait for something to change/ happen/ or someone else to change to start enjoying life 

- because we don't want to rely on happiness from that next shopping purchase, next relationship, next job title, next.........

- because life is tough without energy

- and because we love our children
